Autumn Term Newsletter – Class 2
Here are some details of what your child will be doing over the next term. September 8th – December 18th 2009 (14 weeks)
Our Theme will be:
The World Around Us
|
Literacy Fiction – Stories with familiar settings. This will link with our D.T. work.
Non-Fiction – Instructions. Children will also hear, read, respond to and write poems

|
Numeracy We will begin with a unit of work to recap counting, partitioning and calculating followed by securing number facts and understanding shape.
|
|
Science Within our theme “The world around us” we will be investigating plants and living things.
|
|
IT Children will use an ICT graphics package to explore and realise their ideas. They will identify ways to develop and improve their work.
|
|
RE Our unit of work is entitled “How do I and others feel about life and the universe around us?” This will include Christianity and Judaism.
|
|
Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education At the beginning of the school year we will consider new beginnings followed by a unit of work about getting on with others.
|
|
Geography We will be looking at where we live and investigate famous landmarks around the world.
|
|
History As we investigate the local area we will look at how things have changed over time. We will also look back in time and research dinosaurs.
|
|
Art Our theme will be drawing. This will link to other subjects and children will be drawing in science, history, R.E. and geography.
|
|
D.T. Children will develop an understanding of simple mechanisms through designing and making moving pictures for use in storytelling activities.
|
|
Music
The children will develop their ability to discriminate between longer and shorter sounds, and to use them to create interesting sequences of sound. |
|
PE Children will be developing their ball skills at the beginning of the year. We will then start a unit of work about dance.
|
|
Visits We will be walking around the local area. Please make sure you have signed the parent consent form so that your child can be part of the experience. |
|
Any other information P.E. will be Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. |
