Half Termly newsletter – Class One

 

Here are some of the details of what your child will be doing over the next half term.

 

 

Communication, language and literacy

 

-          Texts include Nursery Rhymes, stories with familiar settings, labels and lists.

 

-          Recognising and exploring rhyming words.

 

Recognising letters of the alphabet.

Mathematical Development

 

-          Using strategies to count objects accurately

 

-          To begin to recognise numerals to 9

 

-          To relate addition to combining two objects

 

-          To sort objects according to their similarities and differences.

 

To use common shapes and create patterns.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

 

Our first topic is Ourselves, the children will be:

 

-          Comparing events at different stages of their life

 

-          Exploring how they have changed

 

Learning that there are different kinds of families and talking about their own family.

Creative Development

 

-          The focus for artwork is printing.

 

-          The children will be learning simple songs, singing echo songs and keeping a steady beat.

 

The focus for role play will be babies as the children explore how they have changed as they have become older.

Physical Development

 

-          Focus for games will be throwing, catching and kicking large balls

 

Indoor P.E. will be dance lessons, themes include Hickory Dickory Dock and Autumn leaves

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

 

As children settle in we will be agreeing classroom rules and children will be learning to access resources independently.

 

Our theme is new beginnings and we will be helping the children to gain a sense of belonging to the class and school and practising social skills such as sharing and turn taking.

 

Any other information

 

P.E. will be on Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning and will be outdoors or indoors depending on the weather.
